The United States Colored Troops Ring

USCT

The USCT Ring was created to join together web sites that honor the soldiers of The United States Colored Troops.  During the Civil War, approximately 140,000 African-Americans served in The United States Colored Troops which was established  on May 22, 1863. Some men were ex-slaves from states that had become Confederate States.  Some were from surrounding states and the rest were from Northern States.  A database of over 230,000 names of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) was developed this year by the NPS. It has been made available in conjunction with the dedication of the African American Civil War Memorial. It is amazing the number of people who still  don't know anything about or have never even heard of The USCT.  The purpose of the USCT Ring is to educate and stimulate people of the world through the connecting web sites.  USCT historians, genealogists, re-enactors and descendants are welcome to join. We have contacted the The Louisiana Almanac, who is currently working on unit histories of some Louisiana USCT Regiments.
